If you're interested in doing any kind of .NET programming I would highly recommend getting the free compiler as it can do most things that you'll need to get started.

The .NET languages are pretty easy to learn in comparison to other languages like C/C++ so I'd say it is a good starting language. Since it is also a fairly new language (in comparison to others) it has a lot of chance to evolve and become even better. Of course if you want to do Linux-based programming you should take a look at C/C++.

For learning material I highly recommend just purchasing a book based on your needs and then just finding source code and playing around with it and using what you learn to make something new.

At the moment it is hard to find some visual styles and some made for Windows 7 were designed for pre-RTM builds which no longer work correctly. So anyone wanting to contribute, just post a link/name of the visual style, any links to screen shots,  whether it's a Windows 7 Basic VS (non-Aero) or an Aero-based VS, and if it's 32 bit/64 bit compatible (try using the format used in the list below if possible. I'll try updating this list frequently. Also, if anyone notices any errors in this list, let me know and I'll fix it.

Note: To use these custom themes (visual styles), you must patch your uxtheme.dll file. You can find a tool to do that here.

Note #2: Any themes listed as only 32 bit or 64 bit compatible means that certain modified files (such as explorer.exe, system dlls, etc..) only work in 32 or 64 bit. The styles themselves should work regardless (at least as far as I know, though some themes rely more heavily on these modified files more than others).

Data are transmitted between computers, terminals, word processing stations and other devices that are located within a compact area such as office building or a headquarters.  The communication system used to link these nearby devices is referred to as LAN.

Most of LANs can be placed in one of the following categories:

High Speed Network: Over 20 million bits per second (MBps) can be transmitted, which provide links between mainframe computers.

Medium Speed Networks: Transmission speeds for these LANs very between 1 MBps and 20 MBps.  Suitable for use with mini-computers, these LANs can support a few hundred workstations and other devices.

Low Speed Personal Computer Network: Transmission rates are generally less than 1 MBps.  Prices and capabilities very considerable.  There are no LANs that will link all brands of personal as well as Web Design Firm computers together.  Some of the LANs that support more than one brand will allow the different makes to share printers and other peripherals, but they may not allow the different to talk to each other.

I'm getting the above exception in the following part of the code when I run the program.

            IntPtr fcode = IntPtr.Zero;
            bpf_program bpf = new bpf_program();
            fcode = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(bpf));
            Marshal.StructureToPtr(bpf,fcode,false);
            string fter = "ip and tcp";
            if (wpcap_wrap.pcap_compile(ref adhandle, ref fcode, fter, 1, nmask) < 0)
            {
                Console.WriteLine("Unable to compile filter");
            }
            if (wpcap_wrap.pcap_setfilter(ref adhandle, ref fcode) < 0)
                Console.WriteLine("Error setting filter");
            Marshal.FreeHGlobal(fcode);

The exception occurs at this line

 if (wpcap_wrap.pcap_setfilter(ref adhandle, ref fcode) < 0)

I declared the method as follows

[DllImport("wpcap.dll")]
public static extern int pcap_setfilter(ref IntPtr p,ref IntPtr fp);

I'm trying to write an app that filters packets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
